SHAH ALAM, Feb 7 — The inaugural Selangor Muay Thai League 1.0, which drew 250 participants, was held with cooperation from the state government through the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) in Section 25 here today.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the league is an early platform to identify and uncover new muay thai talent, especially at the grassroots.
He added that most of the participants, aged between seven and 30, are from Selangor, and some athletes were invited from Sarawak.
He explained that the event featured categories from 20kg to 95kg that involved exponents of various ages and skill levels.

“Through this event, we want to look into the potential for athletes to be trained in stages to become Selangor representatives, including at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 in August,” Najwan told Media Selangor when met after launching the league at Glorious Fight Club here today.
He said Selangor Muay Thai League 1.0 is an early step by the state government to catalyse the more systematic and competitive development of the sport.
The exco explained that it is a start to a long-term effort to strengthen Selangor’s muay thai ecosystem and ensure the steady supply of quality athletes to represent the state in the future.
“We will ensure the sport of muay thai is continued in terms of training, and the state government will monitor and help by providing support to active muay thai associations in Selangor.
“These athletes will also be involved in several national and international championships. Though SUKMA will end, muay thai will continue to be developed, not just for SUKMA,” Najwan added.
