Selangor seeks stronger strategic cooperation with EU

SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — The Selangor government is exploring stronger strategic cooperation with the European Union, especially in water management, flood mitigation and climate-resilient infrastructure, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the decision followed talks between the state government and EU Ambassador to Malaysia Rafael Tristan Daerr.

“Our discussions covered Selangor’s water management, including the role of Air Selangor, flood mitigation initiatives, and the potential for EU-Selangor joint ventures in climate-resilient infrastructure.

“We also explored business and investment opportunities, including the organisation of an EU-Malaysia Business Day in Selangor, potentially to be held in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) in October,” he said on a Facebook post today.

“We further discussed the presence of EU industry players such as Airbus in Subang, as well as the EU’s interest in the development of the Selangor Aero Park.”

Amirudin said Daerr also commended Malaysia’s strong professionalism as ASEAN chair, especially key achievements such as Timor-Leste’s accession to the Southeast Asian bloc.

“Selangor remains open and welcoming to all business and investment opportunities that contribute to the state’s economic growth, technological advancement, and long-term sustainability,” Amirudin said.
