SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — Worldwide Holdings Bhd (WHB) has carried out immediate rectification works at the Jeram, Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Dua Belas, Kuala Langat landfills after prolonged heavy rain late last year caused road conditions there to deteriorate.

The state-linked company said it also introduced operational adjustments to better manage vehicle flow, particularly during peak hours, effectively improving turnaround times and congestion at the sites.

WHB, which manages both sanitary landfills, said the downpours had previously led to slower turnaround times for rubbish collection lorries.

“As conditions improved, traffic in the landfills returned to normal outside peak periods,” it said, as reported by The Star, adding that operational flow is expected to continue improving.

WHB was responding to remarks by KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir, who blamed poor road conditions at landfills as one of the factors contributing to waste collection disruptions in Selangor.

WHB said traffic congestion at the landfills is expected to further ease once its waste-to-energy (WTE) plants begin diverting rubbish trucks.

“The Jeram WTE plant is currently undergoing testing and commissioning. It is expected to be completed by March.

“The Tanjung Dua Belas WTE plant is currently being constructed and is expected to be completed by 2027.”

Previously, Ramli said the landfills lacked sufficient machinery to process waste, resulting in three to four hours of delay as lorries queued, particularly during equipment breakdowns.

In response, WHB said the landfills are adequately equipped to support current operations, with routine maintenance and operational measures in place to minimise lorry turnaround times during peak hours and reduce disruptions when machinery is temporarily unavailable.

“We will continue monitoring the situation and work closely with KDEBWM to ensure smooth operations and reliable waste collection services,” it said.
