SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — A forested area of about four hectares near the Sungai Kelambu Water Treatment Plant in Banting caught fire yesterday afternoon.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Hamdan Hamzah said the department received a call about the incident at 12.43 pm, before deploying seven officers and personnel from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station along with a fire engine.
“Upon arriving at the scene at 1.03 pm, the operations commander reported that the fire involved a forest reserve estimated to cover about 10 acres (four hectares),” he said in a statement today.
Hamdan said the Selangor Forestry Department has been informed of the incident and will send an excavator to assist, in addition to activating nearby tube wells.
He added that firefighting operations can only begin today due to the absence of a water source and the lack of road access to the fire site.
