SHAH ALAM, Feb 4 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has stressed that works currently underway in Taman Sering Ukay, Hulu Kelang do not involve any new development, but are aimed at reducing slope failure risks to ensure residents’ safety.
In a statement today, MPAJ said the works involve stabilising a natural slope after technical analyses found that its Factor of Safety (FOS) was below the minimum required level.
“The analysis showed that the natural slope’s Factor of Safety did not meet the minimum requirement of 1.3. As such, slope-regrading works are necessary to achieve an FOS of 1.5, as recommended under the Public Works Department (JKR) guidelines,” it said.
According to MPAJ, approval for the works was endorsed by the state’s Environmentally-Sensitive Area Development Technical Committee (JTPKSAS) following detailed evaluations by various technical agencies at both the state and Federal levels.
The local authority also emphasised that no development approvals or applications have been granted for the area to date.
“Approval was given solely to address slope stability risks and to enhance the safety level of the soil structure,” MPAJ said.
The slope stabilisation works began in October 2024 and are being carried out in three phases, with full completion expected by April 2026.
To ensure transparency, MPAJ said regular monitoring will continue at the project site, alongside quarterly engagement sessions with residents.
“MPAJ conducts continuous monitoring and schedules meetings with residents to report on work progress and to hear feedback on the project’s implementation,” it said.
MPAJ also encouraged local residents to attend these sessions to obtain accurate and up-to-date information on the ongoing works.
Earlier, the slope stabilisation issue drew public attention following a special report by a news portal highlighting residents’ concerns over hill-clearing activities in the area.
Among the concerns raised were claims that a “new technology” was being used for the slope stabilisation works, which some alleged had not been applied previously.
