SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — Approximately 1,057 individuals accessed services under the Selangor Mental Sihat (SEHAT) programme over the past year, reflecting the high demand for mental health support among the community.
State executive councillor for public health and the environment, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, said implementing SEHAT was the state government’s response to increasingly evident post-COVID-19 pandemic mental health challenges.
The programme primarily focuses on at-risk groups, including adolescents, low-income earners, and senior citizens.
“Mental health issues have now become one of the main public health challenges and require a comprehensive, accessible, and stigma-free approach,” she said.
Jamaliah added that 11 counselling centres have been established under the SEHAT Counsellor Hub, covering all nine districts in Selangor.
“305 clients registered for face-to-face counselling sessions between August and December 2025. Meanwhile, the SEHAT Helpline, which operates on weekdays, received 672 calls throughout the past year, serving as an initial access point for psychosocial assistance to the public,” she said.
The state government also provides Psychiatric and Psychological Treatment Subsidies of up to RM1,000 per person at five registered panel clinics, with 80 registrations recorded between October and December 2025.
“The Selangor government is committed to ensuring that every segment of society, particularly vulnerable groups, can access mental health services that are free, prompt, and effective,” Jamaliah said.
The state government has increased the allocation for the SEHAT programme from RM700,000 to RM1.5 million, positioning Selangor as one of the earliest states to holistically and inclusively strengthen public mental health.
It was initially launched with a RM500,000 allocation to address the growing mental health concerns since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme enables users to assess their mental health status through self-administered early screenings, including a ‘stress scale’ and ‘risk assessment’.
