SAN JOSE, Jan 30 — Strong demand for the iPhone 17 during the Christmas shopping season helped Apple post a record quarter.
The German Press Agency reported on Thursday that the company posted a net profit of US$42 billion (RM165.4 billion) for the quarter ended December 27, up just under 16 per cent from a year earlier. Quarterly revenue also rose by around 16 per cent to US$143.8 billion (RM566.5 billion).
The iPhone business jumped 23 per cent year-on-year to a record high of around US$85.3 billion (RM336 billion). Apple has not disclosed unit sales figures for some time.
According to market research, Apple's iPhone overtook longtime smartphone market leader Samsung in global sales last year. The figures exceeded analysts' expectations.
Business in China also picked up again after a temporary slump. The share price rose by 2.0 per cent at times in after-hours trading in the United States.
