Two dead, two critically hurt in Federal Highway pile-up

SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Two people were killed and two critically injured in a three-vehicle crash at Km11.9 of the Federal Highway towards Klang yesterday.

Shah Alam police chief Ramsay Embol said the crash occurred at about 4.20am when a Honda HR-V, driven by a man with a female passenger, rear-ended a Proton Suprima, driven by a woman, in the right lane.

The three victims reportedly exited their vehicles and were standing between them when the Proton Suprima was struck by a Mercedes, which could not avoid the collision.

The crash killed the Honda HR-V driver and his passenger at the scene, while the Proton Suprima and Mercedes drivers were critically injured and rushed to Shah Alam Hospital.

The cause of death for the two victims was identified as head and bodily injuries due to a motor vehicle crash, and police have taken blood and urine samples from the Mercedes driver.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and witnesses are urged to contact Muhammad Najib Abdul Rahman at 019-7757354 from the Shah Alam district police headquarters.

Ramsay advised motorists to stop their vehicles in safe locations if they find themselves involved in a crash, and avoid standing on the road, especially in the right lane.
