Olak Lempit factory fire 95 pct extinguished — JBPM

BANTING, Jan 15 — Firefighters have put out 95 per cent of the blaze involving four factories at the Olak Lempit Industrial Area here, and expect it to be fully extinguished later today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said that so far, the firefighting operation is at the overhaul phase, with small embers being fully extinguished.

“We are conducting thorough inspections to ensure there are no more victims or other elements that we may have missed.

“JBPM has activated the dog tracking unit (K9), together with the body recovery discipline, for us to conduct a sweep of a warehouse and a factory that were burnt to ensure there are no more victims trapped inside,” he said when met at the scene.

Regarding the three charred bodies found at the scene, Mukhlis said they were all found in the first warehouse that was razed, which is the Pentas Flora warehouse, when overhaul was being carried out.

He said the blaze involved a warehouse and polymer factory, both of which were razed, before the intense heat caused damage to two other nearby premises.

Mukhlis said JBPM has started investigating the cause of the fire, adding that the probe would take up to 14 days to complete.

Earlier, he said in a statement that the department was alerted about the incident at 10.03pm yesterday and immediately mobilised 69 personnel.
