Empty bottles: Gazans in dire need of water

NEW YORK, Jan 15 — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed that displaced families in the Gaza Strip are facing significant difficulties in accessing clean drinking water, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

The UN agency explained in a statement on its official website yesterday that in overcrowded shelters, many rely entirely on water delivered by the agency via trucks and are forced to ration every drop for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.

UNRWA emphasised that access to water remains crucial for survival.

Long queues and a lot of waiting are the norm at refugee camps in Gaza, as in this photo taken at Al-Mushtal Camp in the Al Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, on August 11, 2025.
