SHAH ALAM, Jan 15 — Three charred corpses have been found after a fire raged through four factories on Jalan 5, Kampung Olak Lempit, Banting, last night.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the bodies were found during an overhaul check after the blaze was brought under control.
“Firefighters found the victim during overhaul. Three victims have been found so far, all in Factory A,” he said in a statement.
Previously, Mukhlis said his department received a call on the incident at 10.03pm and a team was dispatched to the location.
He added that the fire involved an oil-processing factory, so firefighters undertook defensive extinguishing as there were explosions in the factory.
Two factories were destroyed while the other two suffered 5 per cent and 1 per cent burn damage, respectively.
The firefighting team comprised the Banting, KLIA, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, Bangi, Petaling Jaya, Presint 7 (Putrajaya), and Nilai (Negeri Sembilan) Fire and Rescue Stations.
Also involved were the Sri Serdang and Rantau Panjang Volunteer Firefighting Team, as well as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Health Ministry (MOH).
