KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — The family of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) intern who died in an air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University in Bukit Damansara yesterday claimed his remains today for funeral arrangements.
The victim’s family was seen arriving at Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s (HKL) Forensic Department at 2.45pm before leaving the premises at 3.55pm.
UTAR Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering dean Prof Chang Yoong Choon was also seen arriving at 3.22pm to meet the victim’s family.
Chang, who spoke on behalf of the family, said they are grateful for the media coverage but declined to disclose the location of the funeral.
“The family does not authorise me to disclose the location of the funeral, so for the university, some of the management of the university and with some of his good friends, we will pay our last respects to the student at the funeral,” he said when met outside the HKL Forensic Department today.
In the 11.40am incident yesterday, one person was killed while nine others were injured, including four students, following an air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, reportedly said the deceased was identified as 24-year-old Soo Yu Juan.
The victim was a third-year mechanical engineering student and had been set to finish his industrial training on Thursday.
