KUALA LANGAT, Jan 12 — Three schools in Sijangkang Jaya that were damaged by a storm disaster in October last year have been fully repaired, with RM12.9 million in funding channelled by the Education Ministry (MOE).
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said repair works at SK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, and SMK Sijangkang Jaya were completed and handed over by the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) to the MOE 24 days earlier than the original completion date.
“The most critical damage involved school roofs that were severely damaged by the storm, in addition to follow-up works like electrical wiring, ceiling repairs, and hall structural works.
“All major works were completed ahead of schedule, allowing the school session to begin today without any disruption,” he told Media Selangor after officiating the handover ceremony at SK Sijangkang Jaya today.
Meanwhile, another affected school, SK Jalan Tanjung, is expected to be fully repaired and handed over on January 26, also 11 days earlier than the original completion date.
Amirudin added that the MOE has approved a RM900,000 allocation to construct a new hall at SK Kampung Medan, which was damaged in the storm.
“The ministry has also supplied desks, chairs, furniture, and school equipment to replace items damaged by the storm,” he said.
Last year's storm caused severe damage to several schools in the Kuala Langat district, affecting student safety and forcing them to be temporarily closed.
