SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 — The Education Ministry (MOE) has begun a study on the need to reinstate the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and the Form Three Assessment (PT3), said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

It is being carried out comprehensively, including gathering parents’ views, and will be presented to the Cabinet and the public.

“Please give us some time; the study has been conducted by the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK). The ministry does have its views, but a comprehensive study is needed to listen to parents’ demands.

“These examinations have been carried out for a long time and have certainly had an impact, which is why we are focusing on a more holistic form of assessment.

“We will provide an explanation; just give us a little time, and it will be presented as soon as possible to the Cabinet and the public. The study is being carried out this year and will be presented as soon as possible,” she said.

Fadhlina was speaking to the media after officiating the opening of SJK(C) Ladang Regent Elmina today.

Earlier, she said that nearly 800,000 Year One and Form One students nationwide had registered for the current school session.

For the record, UPSR was abolished in April 2021 after a series of engagements with various parties, following the cancellation of the examination in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

PT3 was also cancelled in the same year, before being fully abolished in 2022 and replaced with the School-Based Assessment (PBS).

Meanwhile, Fadhlina said that RM150 in assistance has begun to be distributed to schools that have already started the school session since yesterday.

“The assistance is given in cash, and I encourage parents to take this opportunity to meet teachers to find out about their children’s progress,” she said.
