SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 — Senior citizens in the Bukit Gasing state constituency (DUN) who were born between January and March can begin collecting their RM150 birthday vouchers from January 20.
Its assemblyman, Rajiv Rishyakaran, said the assistance is provided under the Mesra Usia Emas Scheme (SMUE) to help seniors celebrate their birthdays in a more meaningful way.
“The distribution is carried out in phases, and vouchers can be collected at the Bukit Gasing DUN office from Monday to Friday, between 10 am and 5 pm, except on Wednesdays when it is open until 7.30 pm,” he said in a Facebook post.
Rajiv added that the vouchers also cover recipients under the Selangor Mesra Insan Scheme (SMIS), particularly persons with disabilities (OKU), who continue to receive attention under the programme.
“SMUE and SMIS recipients who are unable to climb stairs will be assisted by staff on the ground floor to collect their vouchers,” he said.
He also reminded recipients to use the vouchers within 90 days of receiving them.
This year, the Selangor government is continuing both schemes to ensure the welfare of senior citizens and persons with disabilities remains protected.
Last year, Selangor allocated RM20 million for the implementation of SMUE and SMIS, which began on June 1 and benefited 20,000 individuals aged 50 and above, as well as persons with disabilities.
SMUE previously included bereavement assistance, which was discontinued in May 2019 before being reinstated in 2021.
