SMK Bandar Seri Putra to get 10 additional classrooms — Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — The Education Ministry (MOE) is building 10 additional classrooms for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Seri Putra, Selangor, as a short- and medium-term solution to address overcrowding at the school.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said it would be built using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) as the method has proven effective because it can be completed in a short period of time.

“The MOE is planning to build an additional two-storey building using the IBS method at SMK Bandar Seri Putra,” she said in a statement on her Facebook today.

Fadhlina said overcrowding at the school has affected students’ comfort and the effectiveness of teaching and learning sessions.

She added that she had reviewed the school’s condition and held discussions with the school management, the Selangor State Education Department (JPN), the Public Works Department (JKR) and the MOE Development Division to address the issue.

Fadhlina also urged school administrators, JPN, and the District Education Office to improve work discipline and avoid a culture of reacting only after issues go viral, as this could create negative public perceptions.

“We must be fast and agile, clear and responsive to public complaints. We cannot work on a ‘business as usual’ basis, but must be more efficient in managing public expectations and community needs,” she said.

Several social media users have raised concerns about overcrowded classrooms at schools and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved to ensure a more conducive learning environment.
