SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze was seen in a video recently lambasting contractors over delays to cable installation works near Persiaran Subang and the USJ 7/3a intersection, which has caused concerns over traffic congestion there.
The DAP representative conducted a site visit to communicate the woes of the people affected by roadwork delays in the area.
A viral video showed Ng questioning contractors about the project as the road had been excavated but works are still delayed.
She was also seen taking a dig at the contractor, asking, “Matematik dah ke mana, dah ke laut?”.
She was responding to the contractor’s claim that the delay stemmed from a lack of lorries to carry sand in and out of the work site.
The contractor also claimed the issue arose as a few cables were not accounted for in the early stages of the project, and were only found after excavation.
“Didn’t you do a proper survey to see how many cables are in the area before you blocked the road? That was the guarantee you gave me and the council,” she said.
Ng also criticised the contractor for blaming the Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel) for the lack of concrete barriers at the site, and said it was the contractor’s responsibility to install the barriers and formulate contingency plans.
She said further delays to the project could cause worse traffic congestion when school reopens on Monday, adding that when school is in session, drivers could take nearly 40 minutes just to make it past the intersection.
“With the road closed for cable works, it could worsen,” she said.
Ng also questioned why the council wasn’t informed of the delays earlier so alternative arrangements could be made.
“Don’t waste the people’s time. I’m angry because you gave me a commitment before, but now the story has changed.
“When a project is delayed, the people bear the effects. That’s why I’m speaking up,” she scolded.
Ng has been widely praised on social media for her actions, with many users commending her for her approach in visiting the site while heavily pregnant.
