KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 — The Malaysian Army's new leadership has stressed that it will not tolerate any form of misconduct among its personnel, whether by officers or other ranks.
The Army Headquarters' Public Relations Cell said the firm stance was taken after viral posts alleging an unhealthy culture within the military, which had led to negative public perceptions.
In response, it will conduct internal investigations into complaints received, and, if wrongdoing is proven, firm action will be taken in accordance with service regulations and existing laws.
“Moving forward, the Army will implement continuous enforcement through commanders at all units, formations and training centres to provide reminders from time to time.
“These measures include continuous monitoring to curb any integrity issues and immoral activities among its personnel,” the Cell said in a statement today.
As a preventive measure, the Army is also strengthening moral education, integrity awareness, and ethics at all formation levels, and intensifying religious and spiritual activities to foster professional values and disciplined, high-integrity character among its personnel.
The Army leadership remains committed to ensuring that the institution continues to be trusted, respected and supported by the people through the practice of high integrity and professionalism in the interest of national security and sovereignty.
On Monday (January 5), the Defence Ministry (Mindef) directed the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to conduct an internal investigation into allegations of outsiders entering military camps and the existence of immoral activities, which had gone viral on social media.
