KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — A total of 1,783 flood victims remain in relief centres across three states.
In SABAH, the number of flood victims grew slightly to 1,450 (512 families) in 10 relief centres, up from 1,429 people (504 families) last night.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the increase was due to new flood victims from Beaufort.
Beaufort recorded the highest number of victims, with 627 people (211 families) in four relief centres, while Tenom has 563 people (210 families) and Kota Belud’s toll remains at 260 people (91 families).
In SARAWAK, the JPBN reported SMK Bekenu in Miri still shelters 308 flood victims (99 families), down from 332 people (109 families) at 4pm yesterday.
The victims are from Kampung Kawang, Kampung Jenggalas, Kampung Rambai, Kampung Pintasan, Kampung Masjid, Kampung Kuala Lajung, Kampung Majelin, and Kampung Kelapa in Bekenu.
In JOHOR, the number of flood victims shrank to 25 people (eight families), down from 27 victims (nine families), yesterday.
State JPBN chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the Kampung Batu Badak hall remains open in Segamat, having sheltered victims from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu Lima since December 28.
“A continuous rain warning has been issued for Mersing and Kota Tinggi districts.
“Sungai Benut at Parit Salleh gate in Pontian is at the warning level with a reading of 2.15m, while Sungai Muar at Sungai Tekam jetty in Segamat is also at the warning level at 3.46m,” Asman said in a statement today.
