MPAJ, MPSepang use online system to manage Ramadan bazaars

SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has opened online applications for Ramadan bazaar licences to ensure transparency and prevent traders from having to bear excessive charges by third parties or middlemen.

MPAJ said it hasn’t received any complaints on fraudulent Ramadan bazaar lot sales, and hopes no third party partakes in such activities.

The council also advised traders to follow MPAJ social media channels for a list of locations and rates for Ramadan bazaar lots.

“Applications for MPAJ Ramadan bazaars are only done on the e-trader system,” it told Media Selangor.

“Online applications can prevent non-transparent elements in MPAJ Ramadan bazaar requests, and discourage other parties from taking advantage, such as by reselling lots at higher rates.

“Checks by MPAJ at Ramadan bazaars will be done from 1 Ramadan 1447H to ensure lots applied for by traders are managed by those same traders,” it said.

Meanwhile, Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) president Ani Ahmad said the council has been registering Ramadan bazaar traders online since 2022.

She said traders are informed about the system and have used it without issue.

“MPSepang also provides references and guides to help them submit applications through the council’s official portal and social media channels like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok,” she said.

Ani added that MPSepang hasn’t received complaints about attempts at fraud or selling Ramadan bazaar lots for as long as the online system has been in use.

However, she said traders have been advised not to deal with a third party.

“Submit complaints or queries to the MPSepang Licensing Department for checking and further action,” she added.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged local councils not to use agents or middlemen to register traders for Ramadan bazaar permits.

He asked councils to follow in the Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) footsteps and register traders online to increase transparency and keep costs low for traders.
