SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — Selangor FC has appointed former national football team head coach Kim Pan Gon as its new head coach, effective today.

Similarly, the club's former interim head coach Christophe Gamel has been appointed as its new technical director.

"With Kim Pan Gon's extensive experience and impressive track record, the club believes that he will carry out his responsibilities as Head Coach of the Red Giants' first team successfully and lead Selangor to greater heights," it said in a statement today.

Selangor FC added that Gamel's role will focus entirely on youth player and coach development for the Under-23 squad, at the club's grassroots level.

"We wish Kim Pan Gon and Christophe Gamel every success in carrying out their duties and roles," it said.

In January 2022, the Football Association of Malaysia appointed Kim as Harimau Malaya's head coach. Under his direction, they qualified for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup after a decades-long wait.

However, he resigned as Harimau Malaya head coach in July 16, 2024, and now serves as the Tonga national football team's manager.

Gamel, who formerly played semi-professionally for several French and Italian clubs, also served as head coach of the Fiji national team from 2017 to 2019. In 2021, Sri Pahang FC appointed him as its assistant head coach, where he subsequently became head coach the following year.

From 2023 to August last year, Gamel served as an assistant coach for the Vietnam U-23 and national teams, as well as Australia's Macarthur FC. In September, he assumed the interim Selangor manager role following Katsuhito Kinoshi's departure.
