SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The government will continue providing RM150 in Early Schooling Assistance (BAP) to each student, which is expected to be distributed within the next one to two weeks.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the assistance covers students from pre-school up to Form Six, compared with the previous scope, which was limited to up to Form Five only.

The assistance is subject to a condition requiring parents or guardians to be present at the school to ensure the funds are used fully for their children’s needs, while also enabling them to interact directly with teachers.

“We require parents to go to the school, ensure that the money is spent on their children, and at the same time hear directly from teachers about their children’s issues.

“This assistance cannot be collected by a representative, including the child themselves, as the allocation provided by the government is substantial, amounting to RM800 million,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Department Monthly Assembly and 2026 New Year Address in Putrajaya today.

During the Budget 2026 presentation in October last year, Anwar, the Finance Minister, announced the RM150 BAP as a one-off payment to school students to help ease the burden of preparing school necessities.
