KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 — The success of Malaysia’s education system depends not only on policies and funding but also on close cooperation between the government, parents, and educators, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Reaffirming that education remains a national priority, he said strong collaboration among all parties is essential to ensure children receive holistic support, both at school and at home.

“By ensuring quality education grounded in values and humanity, we can produce a generation that is knowledgeable, ethical and resilient in facing future challenges,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today.

He also shared details of his visit, accompanied by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to SK Sungai Besi, SJK(C) Kwong Hon, and SJK(C) Sungai Besi to monitor the distribution of the Early Schooling Assistance (BAP).

The BAP is a key government initiative to ease parents’ financial burden in preparing their children for the new school year.

Anwar said the visit also allowed him to meet and engage with pupils beginning their schooling journey.

“Their excitement reminds us that every child carries not only the hopes of parents, but also the trust of teachers and the aspirations of the nation’s future,” he said, adding that schools play a vital role in shaping character, discipline and identity.

From this year, the academic calendar for national and government-aided schools returns to a January start after changes made in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The school session for Group B, comprising Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, began today, while the Group A states of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu started yesterday.
