JAKARTA, Dec 30 — The Indonesian government has set a total import quota of 4.8 million tonnes for several food commodities in 2026, the Coordinating Food Affairs Ministry said today.
Xinhua reported that the import quota for food commodities covers beef, salt, and sugar, aiming to meet industrial demand while maintaining national food supply stability.
Under the policy, the government has approved imports of 17,000 tonnes of industrial beef in 2026, significantly lower than the initial proposal of 297,000 tonnes.
For other industrial needs, salt imports for the chlor-alkali plant industry have been set at 1.18 million tonnes, while industrial raw sugar imports will reach 3.12 million tonnes.
An additional 508,360 tonnes of sugar has been allocated under the Import Facility for Export Purposes programme.
The government has also capped fishery product imports at 52,801 tonnes. The ministry stressed that no imports of consumer sugar will be permitted.
