SUBANG JAYA, Dec 23 — Corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the education sector not only lightens the financial burdens of children from asnaf (underprivileged) families, but could encourage them to continue going to school, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.
She praised companies that contribute school essentials and urged more firms to undertake such initiatives to the benefit of more students.
“We know the cost of sending children to school is high. This comprehensive aid gives children the confidence to attend school and ensures no pupil is left behind.
“Such initiatives not only help students, but support the development of human capital that will positively impact the people and national economy,” Anfaal said after launching the Mydin Jelajah Generasi Pintar event at Mydin Subang Jaya here today.

The Mydin Jelajah Generasi Pintar event, held in collaboration with shoe company Abaro, targets over 1,000 primary school students in Selangor. It will also be held in Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, and Melaka.
Meanwhile, Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said each student at the event received school supplies worth rM150, including uniforms, writing tools, schoolbags, and other basic needs.
“This is an annual programme that is done with the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) cooperation. (The department) identifies students eligible for this aid,” Ameer said.
