SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will require all food premises to adhere to the BMW (bersih, menawan, dan wangi, or clean, attractive, and fragrant) toilet standard from 2026.
It said this will be a condition for both new license approvals and renewals.
“Compliance with the BMW toilet standards will be assessed during inspections by officers on duty and will be a key factor in the approval or renewal of business licenses,” MBSA said in a statement.
The local authority also cautioned that premises failing to meet the requirements could have their applications delayed, rejected, or be subject to enforcement action under existing laws and regulations.
It added that this is in line with guidelines from the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).
MBSA will take effect from the specified date and must be adhered to by all relevant parties.
