Christmas price control scheme to run for five days from Dec 23

PAPAR, Dec 20 — The Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) in conjunction with Christmas will be implemented for five days from December 23 to 27, covering 14 types of controlled goods.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister (KPDN) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the period includes two days before Christmas the day of the celebration, and two days after.

"The implementation of the SHMMP is appropriate, taking into consideration the current situation, to ensure consumers can enjoy reasonable prices while traders are not pressured by an implementation period that is too long," he said.

Armizan said this to reporters when announcing the Christmas SHMMP and the Jualan Rahmah programme at the Papar Library Open Hall here today.

He said goods that will be controlled under the scheme include imported bone mutton; imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing cabbage); carrots (China); tomatoes; and red chillies.

Others include green bell peppers; large red onions; large yellow onions; imported potatoes (China); chicken wings; and live old chickens (Sarawak only)

Meanwhile, live pigs (farm only), pork (belly) and pork (meat and fat) will be limited to Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Armizan said the SHMMP would be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Meanwhile, a total of 875 Christmas Rahmah Madani Sales Programmes will be implemented nationwide, from December 18 to 27.
