SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — Kampung Indian Settlement in Gombak will be developed into a more planned neighbourhood complete with road access and flood mitigation in place, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said some residents’ homes are built on road reserve land and several house lots don’t match the owners’ land grants.

“If left without intervention, several issues will arise, including a lack of access road of an appropriate width and problems with ownership transfers if the land is to be sold.

“The area is also exposed to flooding as there are no road buffers and its basic drainage cannot accommodate the (amount of) rain,” he said in a statement today.

Amirudin said these matters were conveyed to residents during a discussion and their views were considered before the redevelopment project was pushed.

From that discussion, he said 44 families agreed to leave their homes for the main development — a 2.5km road.

“Something that needs to be settled is rental throughout the development period, and the rebuilding of homes to match their land grants.

“The state government will help lighten rent cost burdens for these 44 families while the road, drains, road furniture and flood mitigation (structures) are built,” Amirudin added.

He also said the Gombak Land and District Office (PDT) has consulted Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) to build more comfortable homes, but in a way that the cost and payment mechanism match residents’ abilities.

“The process will start after Thaipusam celebrations to respect residents’ need to prepare for the festivities and to give them enough time.

“Gombak PDT will coordinate this effort for its smooth implementation to strengthen the quality of infrastructure in Gombak,” Amirudin said.
