SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — Selangor has pledged a humane approach to resettling residents of Jalan Papan, Pandamaran, following a peaceful demonstration at the State Secretariat Building today.
The protest involved residents of the pre-Merdeka settlement in Klang who were previously reported to have filed 66 police reports against a developer they accused of unlawfully issuing eviction notices despite an ongoing Court of Appeal case.
State housing and culture executive councillor Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said they have received the residents’ memorandum and will review their concerns comprehensively.
"The state government emphasises that demolition works must be limited only to vacant houses and business premises without occupants," he said in a statement today, citing an agreement from a meeting chaired by the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on Tuesday (October 21).
Borhan added that the phased approach prioritises humanitarian considerations while meeting development needs.
The controversy stems from eviction notices served on August 26, which residents say violate a March stay of execution granted by the Court of Appeal.
The developer had obtained a Shah Alam High Court order requiring residents to vacate by September 9, but the conflicting court orders have left the community in limbo.
The residents are demanding fair treatment and clarity on relocation plans as the state government monitors implementation through follow-up meetings.
