Nur Syafiqah clinches maiden SEA Games gold in pencak silat women's singles

BANGKOK, Dec 14 — National silat exponent Nur Syafiqah Hamzah created a golden moment after clinching her maiden gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games by emerging champion in the women’s singles event today.

She collected 9.960 points in the final at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, defeating Brunei’s Nur Wasiqah Aziemah Rosihan, who scored 9.920 points.

“Honestly, the feeling is very special because this is my first gold at the SEA Games. I have dreamed of this moment for a long time, so when it finally became a reality, I feel extremely grateful and moved.

“In terms of my overall performance, I am satisfied. I managed to control my emotions, maintain focus, and give my best in the arena. For me, this victory is not the end, but the beginning of a new step towards greater challenges ahead,” she said when contacted.

The victory ended Malaysia’s long wait in the women’s singles event, which Suzy Sulaiman last won during the 2005 SEA Games in the Philippines.
