KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his compliments to national para-powerlifting champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, who secured the country’s second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
“Congratulations to Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, who continues to bring glory to the nation by winning gold in the men’s under-72kg para-powerlifting event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
“May you continue to achieve success and bring further honour to Malaysia!” he said in a Facebook post today.
Bonnie delivered Malaysia’s second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games after winning the men’s 72kg category at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre.
This achievement marks a successful title defence for the Sarawak-born athlete, who also won gold at the 2022 edition in Hangzhou.
The victory also serves as redemption for Bonnie, following his disappointment in failing to defend his Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow in July, where he finished with a bronze in the men’s lightweight category.
