SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — The Supermokh Sebuah Muzikal production, which tells the story of national football legend Datuk Mokhtar Dahari, may be restaged if the relevant parties grant approval.

Its director Datuk Hans Isaac said the decision rests with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj as the patron, as well as the consent of the late Mokhtar’s family.

“I follow instructions. If His Royal Highness wishes it, of course, I am ready. But the name (Datuk) Mokhtar Dahari does not belong to me; it belongs to the public, to Malaysia and to his family.

“If given the mandate or instruction, I would very much like to revive this production,” said the National Film Development Corporation's (Finas) chairman in an interview with Media Selangor recently.

Supermokh was staged at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur, from November 6 to November 18, 2013, for its first season, while the second season ran from September 8 to September 21, 2014.

With 17 performances in its first run and 25 performances with 1,330 seats for the second, Hans collaborated with actor Harith Iskander to direct the production.

The musical featured well-known actor and singer Awie as Mokhtar, with Maya Karin as Tengku Zarina, and a strong ensemble cast that included Rashidi Ishak, Douglas Lim, Dina Nadzir, Radhi Khalid, Phoon Chi Ho, Oliver Johanan, and Clarence Kuna, who helped bring the production to life.

The internationally styled musical arrangement was composed by music director Michael Veerapen, with lyrics by Adlin Aman Ramli and choreography by Adzwadi Saini.

Mokhtar, known as SuperMokh to his fans, began playing for the national team at 19. He passed away on July 11, 1991, at 37 due to a neuromuscular disease.

Regarded as one of the best Malaysian and Asian footballers in the 1970s, the late legend represented Selangor and helped secure 10 Malaysia Cup titles, three Charity Shields, and two Super League titles.

Several years ago, former journalist Joe Nathan Lourdes expressed his belief that the No. 10 player once held the record as the world’s top goal scorer from October 27, 1980, to June 17, 2004.

At the time the article was published, Mokhtar ranked fifth among the world’s all-time top goal scorers. His final match and goal for Selangor were recorded in 1987.
