SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The Asean Health Symposium 2025 has further reinforced the state's reputation as a national leader in the digital economy and health innovation, positioning it as a regional reference centre for public health policy.
State executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the symposium serves as an essential platform to discuss critical issues, including preparedness for health crises and threats of infectious diseases in the Asean region.
“We have gathered 100 participants from various stakeholders to ensure comprehensive discussions and build a shared understanding. Many initiatives introduced by the Selangor government have now been adapted and implemented nationwide,” she said after the event in Subang Jaya today.
Jamaliah added that the symposium also supports efforts to strengthen regional health security by sharing experiences and data on diverse disease profiles.
The direct exchange of information also enables faster, more effective actions to address public health challenges.
She said the organisation of such programmes highlights Selangor’s leadership in public health policy and innovation, inspiring other states in the region.
The councillor also introduced a mental health awareness initiative specifically for teenagers by establishing Peer Support Groups, providing a safe space for students to share experiences, challenges, and emotional pressures with one another.
“This programme will hopefully increase awareness of the importance of emotional support among teenagers,” Jamaliah said.
