SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — Malaysia is well-positioned to emerge as a regional renewable energy hub under the Asean Power Grid (APG), says Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
In his Parliamentary written reply yesterday, Fadillah said this was driven by the progress of its Energy Exchange Malaysia (Enegem) platform.
He said Enegem, which was introduced in 2023 under the Cross Border Electricity Sales for Renewable Energy framework, had enabled Malaysia to export green electricity to neighbouring countries through a transparent bidding mechanism.
“Malaysia has successfully carried out cross-border green electricity export through a transparent bidding mechanism,” he said in response to Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim’s question on Enegem’s achievements and how it will position Malaysia as a regional renewable energy hub under the APG.
Fadillah further stated that during its pilot phase, 50MW was offered to Singaporean bidders, with 375GWh exported as of October 2025. The pilot phase runs until December 2026 to assess the platform’s feasibility and improvements.
He also said that Enegem had established a strong institutional and market foundation linking Malaysia’s renewable energy supply to regional demand.
“With ongoing efforts to expand grid interconnections, strengthen renewable energy certification (Renewable Energy Certificate-REC) and accelerate the development of clean energy projects, Malaysia has strong potential to emerge as a regional renewable energy hub under the Asean Power Grid,” he said.
