KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — The number of flood evacuees in several states has declined in line with improving conditions, but figures in Perak and Selangor rose as at 3pm today.
In SELANGOR, the number of victims rose to 4,458 people (1,224 families) compared with 4,366 evacuees (1,208 families) at noon.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, 19 temporary relief centres (PPS) are open statewide, with nine in Sepang, six in Kuala Langat, three in Sabak Bernam, and one in Klang.
In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees dropped to 8,345 people (2,490 families) compared with 9,584 people at 12pm.
According to the InfoBencana portal, Kuala Terengganu recorded the highest number of evacuees with 1,670 people, followed by Kemaman (1,667), Marang (1,536), Kuala Nerus (1,335), Setiu (1,039), Dungun (711), and Hulu Terengganu (356), while in Besut, the last relief centre was closed after all evacuees went home.
In PERAK, the number of flood victims increased this afternoon to 6,440 people (2,006 families) at 45 PPS, compared with the 6,173 people (1,903 families) reported earlier.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the weather in 12 districts in the state is forecast to be fair at night, while several districts, such as Manjung, Perak Tengah, Muallim and Kinta, are expected to experience rain in the afternoon.
KEDAH’s flood evacuee toll dropped to 3,295 people (1,020 families) from 3,302 people (1,023 families) previously. They are sheltered at 14 PPS in Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar.
In PERLIS, the number of victims declined to 5,246 people, with three PPS closed this afternoon, compared with 6,159 evacuees at 12pm.
According to the Perlis State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, 21 PPS are still open in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar as at 4pm.
For NEGERI SEMBILAN, the InfoBencana portal showed that the number of victims at five PPS dipped to 310 people (113 families) as at 3pm, compared with 373 victims (138 families) at 12pm.
The situation in KELANTAN is also improving, with a lower count of 1,906 people from the 2,152 reported at noon. The districts still affected are Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Tanah Merah, and Gua Musang.
In PAHANG, the number of victims at PPS declined to 1,855 people (594 families) from 2,268 people (723 families).
The Raub District Disaster Management Committee secretariat said six PPS in the district have been shut.
In MELAKA, only four PPS are still operational after two were closed today. the evacuee toll also dipped to 111 people (27 families) at 3pm, compared with 267 people (76 families) at noon.
