KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — Unpredictable weather conditions, marked by intermittent bouts of heavy rain, have driven up the number of flood evacuees in five states: Terengganu, Perak, Perlis, Selangor, and Pahang, while Kelantan and Kedah recorded a slight decline.
In Terengganu, the number of evacuees rose to 4,111 people from 1,245 families in the afternoon, up from 3,483 people from 1,131 families reported this morning, with 49 temporary relief centres (PPS) currently operating across seven districts.
The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat said continuous rain is still affecting most parts of the state, and the number of evacuees is expected to increase further.
According to a report from the Irrigation and Drainage Department's (JPS) publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, the water level in Sungai Nerus at three locations: Kampung Bukit (F1), Kampung Langkap, and Kampung Bukit in Setiu, has now surpassed the danger mark.
In Perak, the number of flood evacuees across seven districts rose slightly, with 5,689 victims from 1,749 families recorded this afternoon, compared to 5,620 victims from 1,746 families sheltering at 45 PPS this morning.
Manjung continues to record the highest number of evacuees, with 2,098 people from 641 families still housed across 17 PPS. This is followed by Perak Tengah (1,393 evacuees), Hilir Perak (1,197), Bagan Datuk (706), Muallim (79), Larut, Matang dan Selama (145), and Kuala Kangsar (71).
In Perlis, the number of evacuees rose to 7,622 this afternoon, up from 7,501 this morning, with 24 PPS currently operating in Padang Besar, Arau, and Kangar to accommodate all evacuees.
In Selangor, the number of evacuees recorded a slight increase, rising to 2,467 people from 654 families compared to 2,460 people from 642 families this morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, one PPS has been closed, leaving 14 PPS still operating across the affected districts.
In Pahang, the number of flood evacuees also rose slightly to 21 people from eight families, up from 19 this morning. All those affected are being housed at three PPS: Masjid Kampung Beletik, the Dato Omar Kuala Medang Multipurpose Hall, and SK Lubuk Kulit, in the Lipis district.
Publicinfobanjir indicated that several rivers in Pahang have surpassed their alert thresholds.
Sungai Belat in Sri Damai, Kuantan, rose to 3.10 metres, exceeding the 3.0-metre alert level. Sungai Lipis in Batu Malim recorded 114.57 metres, above the 114.24-metre warning level, while Sungai Telemong in Bentong reached 98.28 metres, surpassing the 98.10-metre alert level.
In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 9,187 people from 3,456 families, compared with 10,950 evacuees this morning, with Tumpat, Bachok, Pasir Mas, and Kota Bharu among the worst-affected districts.
According to the Kelantan Civil Defence Force Secretariat, 61 PPS are currently operating across nine districts. Publicinfobanjir reported that the water level of Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang remains at a dangerous level, with the 4.15 pm reading showing 10.36 metres — 1.36 metres above the 9-metre danger threshold.
In Kedah, the number of evacuees dropped to 4,270 people from 1,442 families, compared with 4,306 people from 1,453 families this morning.
According to the Kedah JPBN, all evacuees from the Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, and Pokok Sena districts are being housed at 23 PPS.
