Floods: Sipitang recovers, number of evacuees in Beaufort rises

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 13 — The floods in Sipitang fully receded as of 3pm today, allowing all 203 people from 96 families to return home, while the number of evacuees in Beaufort rose this afternoon.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat said the evacuees from 14 villages in Sipitang were housed at two temporary relief centres (PPS): Dewan SK Padang Berampah and Dewan SMK Padang Berampah.

In Beaufort, the number of evacuees from three villages staying at the Selagon permanent evacuation centre increased to 304 from 130 families, up from 242 from 89 families this morning.

Continuous heavy rain since Tuesday (February 10) caused Sungai Mengalong in Sipitang and Sungai Padas in Beaufort to swell, leading to flooding in surrounding villages.
