SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has accepted the resignation of his senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, amid allegations of corruption.
He said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to conduct an immediate investment into the allegations without any external interference.
“The Madani government remains steadfast in its principles of transparency and integrity, and will allow the investigation to proceed in accordance with the rule of law,” he said in a statement today, while thanking Shamsul Iskandar for his service.
This comes just days after Anwar reprimanded a political secretary in the Dewan Rakyat for issuing support letters for contractors in a hospital project last year, although he did not explicitly name Shamsul Iskandar.
Anwar had said that government rules and principles do not permit such actions.
Shamsul Iskandar was appointed as Anwar’s senior political secretary on December 23, 2022.
In a post on X yesterday, Shamsul Iskandar said there are attempts to attack him with allegations intended to tarnish the image of the federal government.
“I have decided to defend myself against these attacks. I have also submitted my resignation letter to the prime minister,” he said.
