SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — The High Court has fixed December 4 to hear a stay of execution application for Ismanira Abdul Manaf, mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, against her five-year prison sentence for neglecting her six-year-old autistic son, resulting in physical injuries two years ago.
Senior Assistant Registrar Nadiah Misman set the date after her lawyer Harish Mahadevan filed the stay application.
On October 31, Ismanira, 30, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court after being found guilty of neglecting her son, which caused him physical harm.
Judge Syahliza Warnoh imposed the sentence after ruling that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt at the close of its case.
The court ordered the accused to begin serving her sentence from October 31 onwards. She was also required to enter into a two-year good-conduct bond with a local citizen as surety and to pay bail of RM3,000.
In addition, Ismanira was directed to perform 120 hours of community service, to be completed within six months after the end of her prison term.
Previously, her husband Ikhwan Zahari, 30, was charged for the same offence but later acquitted.
Both parents were charged with neglecting Zayn in a way that might result in physical harm around Block R, Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai, to the nearby stream between 12pm on December 5 and 9.55pm on December 6, 2023, after their son’s body was found near the stream a day after he was reported missing on December 5.
