SHAH ALAM, Nov 18 — Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to develop a Women’s Leadership Professional Certificate.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said it aims to produce knowledgeable and capable women leaders in line with the target of 30 per cent women’s participation in decision-making.
“This MOU is an effort to enhance and increase the number of women in the Women’s Leadership Academy (AKW) through the introduction or awarding of a professional certificate.
“Previously, AKW participants had to continue their individual fields of study at a university, but now AKW itself offers certification. This also serves as an entry point to explore employment opportunities or further study,” he said after officiating the WBS-UKM MoU Ceremony at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.
Meanwhile, the ceremony also featured the presentation of the Selangor Women’s Scholarship (fourth cohort) to six recipients: three Master’s students and the remaining three pursuing doctorates (PhD).
34 women have benefited from the scholarship since its introduction in 2021, with 13 having completed their studies across Cohorts One to Three.
The scholarship focuses on fields such as gender studies, women’s leadership, the care economy, political science/social sciences, and community development studies.
Earlier, the event also saw the launch of AKW’s new logo, marking a new phase in strengthening the identity of women’s leadership, with a design featuring elements of elegance, resilience, and vision.
