Selangor FC to appeal FAM penalty, urge transparent probe

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — Selangor FC (SFC) will submit an appeal to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to review its penalty on the club and urge a more transparent investigation.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the SFC management has been consulted, and agreed to bring the matter to the FAM.

“The appeal will be submitted by the management and an official statement will be issued soon,” he said when met at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here today.

Najwan also urged SFC to review the penalty to identify inaccurate allegations.

“If there are inaccurate allegations, those should be disputed. We hope the FAM will reconsider,” he said.

He opined that the penalty is too stern and punitive.

SFC was fined RM100,000 and ordered to compete without spectators for two FA Cup matches over five accusations made during its match against Negeri Sembilan at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium on October 29.

The accusations include claims of the use of firecrackers, the vandalism and throwing of stools and water bottles, provocation among spectators, and the failure to observe safety obligations before, during, and after the match.

The exco advised spectators to be disciplined and not be too emotional during matches.

“If supporters act up, the club gets the blame, so we must remember to behave so matches are held safely,” Najwan said.
