'People-centred' 2026 Selangor Budget gets state reps’ thumbs up

SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — State assemblymen have welcomed the 2026 Selangor Budget, praising its people-centred approach and balanced focus on sustainable development and community well-being.

Port Klang state assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri commended the state government for placing greater focus on infrastructure development in Klang, particularly road upgrading and river maintenance works to mitigate flash flood risks.

“As Port Klang assemblyman, my main focus in the state budget is infrastructure development, particularly upgrading roads in the Klang district, which is an important economic hub in the state.

“Enhancing and maintaining existing infrastructure is crucial to meeting the needs of the local community,” he told Media Selangor yesterday.

Azmizam also praised the state government for its focus on addressing climate change, which has led to erratic rainfall and flash floods.

“The announcement of funding for river deepening in Klang is welcome news for residents, particularly those living in coastal and riverside areas,” he said.

Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron welcomed the state government’s initiative to support education, including a 50 percent tuition fee subsidy for 4,000 students at Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS).

“This is a very positive initiative, as the 2026 Budget places significant focus on education,” he said.

He also highlighted the increase in the state development allocation from RM1.3 billion to RM1.37 billion, saying it demonstrates a clear focus on long-term development in infrastructure and education.

“This budget clearly shows Selangor’s commitment to recognising and strengthening the development sector as the foundation of the state’s progress.”

When tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that 4,000 students enrolling at UIS and Unisel in the September 2026 intake will receive a 50 percent subsidy on tuition fees.
