Tengku Amir Shah to race in 35th Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta

KLANG, Nov 15 — A total of 28 teams from various countries are competing in the 35th edition of the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR), starting today.

The nine-day race starts from Port Klang to Pangkor Island in Perak before sailing to Penang Island. The final leg is scheduled to end on Langkawi Island.

Adding to the excitement, this year's race is being attended by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who has consented to participate in the prestigious regatta.

RMSIR chairman Irsyad Ismail said Tengku Amir Shah has participated in the tournament more than three times, making this year's competition even more interesting.

"What's more fascinating is that this regatta will be attended by the Raja Muda’s wife, Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz.

"Sailing is actually the Raja Muda's hobby and he is very passionate about it," Irsyad said at the RMSIR opening ceremony at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club here yesterday.

The RMSIR, which began in 1990, is the second oldest sailing competition in Asia and the most challenging in Southeast Asia.

The RMSIR was the brainchild of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj when he was the Raja Muda of Selangor.
