SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — The state continues to solidify its position as the main contributor to Malaysia’s aerospace industry, accounting for over 60 per cent of the nation’s total aerospace activities.

This achievement stems from integrated initiatives involving the state government, investment agencies, and industry partners.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the success was not only the result of Federal and state government efforts, but was also driven by Selangor’s infrastructure advantages and its comprehensive industrial ecosystem.

“Selangor has long been the heartbeat of Malaysia’s aerospace industry. With the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, it serves as the main hub for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, logistics, and aircraft component manufacturing,” he said.

Speaking at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority's (Mida) Strategic Investment Seminar today, Amirudin added that his administration emphasises the importance of interstate collaboration in developing the aerospace industry’s value chain.

“If each state were to work in isolation, we might build capacity but fail to create globally competitive aerospace enterprises.

“However, with synergy between the Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM) in Melaka, initiatives in Negeri Sembilan, and the financial strengths of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Malaysia can progress much further,” he said.

Amirudin noted that developing local talent remains a key focus, through collaboration with universities, vocational institutions, and technology centres nationwide to produce a highly skilled workforce in aerospace engineering and chip design technology.

“With a combination of quality human capital, a strong financial ecosystem, and a balanced lifestyle, Malaysia is now on the right track to becoming a regional aerospace hub,” he said.

The Menteri Besar is confident that strengthening cross-state cooperation will accelerate the nation's progress towards becoming Southeast Asia’s leading aerospace centre in the near future.
