WCE: State govt gives 19 Kg Jawa residents two-week extension to vacate land

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — The Selangor government has approved a two-week extension, effective today until November 24, for 19 residents of Kampung Jawa, Klang, who were ordered to vacate their land to make way for the construction of the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said an official letter of postponement had been submitted to the Klang District and Land Office, taking into account the residents’ request for more time to arrange their relocation.

“However, I would like to stress that this will be the final extension, as the project will bring benefits not only to the people of Selangor but also to Malaysians as a whole.

“The project must resume without further delay, as it has already been postponed for a long period,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Borhan added that all affected residents have been offered temporary accommodation through the Smart Sewa Scheme and have received appropriate compensation from the WCE concessionaire.

On Monday (November 3), he said that the state government had granted a seven-day period, ending November 10, for the 19 affected residents to vacate their land.

The decision was made following a meeting with the residents and relevant agencies, including the WCE company, the Selangor Land and Mines Office, and the local authorities.

Earlier reports stated that the refusal of 19 landowners in Kampung Jawa, Klang, to vacate their homes along a 150-metre stretch had been the main factor delaying completion of the WCE project, which is now more than 90 per cent complete.

Spanning 233 kilometres, the WCE connects Banting, Selangor, to Taiping, Perak, offering an alternative to the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and aiming to ease congestion along current routes.
