Northeast monsoon to begin this Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The 2025/2026 northeast monsoon is expected to begin this Thursday (November 13) and continue until March next year, with five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain predicted during the period.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department's (MetMalaysia) director-general Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said prolonged heavy rain over several days could lead to flooding, particularly in areas near rivers and low-lying regions.

“Strong and continuous northeasterly winds during this period may also cause rough seas and an increased risk of sea level rise in the South China Sea,” he said in a statement today.

He advised the public to remain vigilant and prepared for potential heavy rain episodes throughout the monsoon season by regularly following weather updates, forecasts and warnings issued via MetMalaysia’s official website, the myCuaca app, the department’s social media channels, or by contacting the hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
