Four local councils named Selangor’s most sustainable cities

KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 8 — Four local authorities have been named Selangor’s most sustainable cities during the state World Urbanism Day celebration at Dataran Malawati here today.

The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) and Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) won the municipality/district category, while the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) won the city category.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who also launched the state World Urbanism Day celebration, presented the awards.

He also praised local councils that passed the Level 1 smart city assessment by the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia).

“Some of these areas have surpassed smart city Level 1 status. All of our local councils have actually surpassed Level 1, and there are even those on Levels 2 and 3. However, only Sabak Bernam hasn’t. This is why Selangor hasn’t achieved smart state status. But other local councils have surpassed this level because of their access and initiatives,” he told reporters.

Also present at the event were state executive councillors for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail, housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, and local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

Amirudin took the time to visit exhibits at the celebration and mingled with attendees on the final day of the event today.

The state’s World Urbanism Day celebration is themed “Urban Renewal: Planning Agenda for the People”.

Malaysia has celebrated World Urbanism Day every year on November 8 to celebrate and appreciate urban planners and development stakeholders.
