SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — A mini sports fest held in conjunction with the Selangor Royal newlyweds’ visit to Dataran Kemerdekaan here not only celebrated customs and traditions, but reflected the ruling institution’s close relationship with the people.
Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and wife Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz surveyed the people playing traditional games during the event, showcasing their friendly, humble personalities.
Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) health officer Norjannah Tahir, 45, said she was happy that the couple was willing to spend time with the people.
“I am overjoyed at the Royal couple’s participation as they were willing to spend time and play games with the people. This is also my first time at an event related to royalty,” she told Media Selangor.
Meanwhile, MBSA enforcement officer Miswan Saad, 52, called Tengku Amir Shah and Afzaa Fadini’s presence a symbol of their care for the people.
“Programmes like this not only help the palace and people get closer, but encourage the people’s involvement in traditional activities.
“I hope such events can be held in every district and attract more parties, including external organisers,” he said.
For construction worker Mohd Zamri Parmin, 44, the opportunity to make the event a success was a great honour.
“I am happy to have been involved in this event. It is among the biggest we have ever handled. As the people, we are very grateful,” he said.
“Saya amat berbesar hati kerana terlibat dalam penganjuran majlis sukan rakyat ini.
The people’s sports fest held this evening uplifted the values of togetherness and family, as well as Selangor’s cultural heritage.
