SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — Selangor has seen a rise in tourist arrivals by 13.8 per cent during Visit Selangor Year 2025, testament to the state’s tourism promotion efforts.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said Selangor received 4.14 million tourists this June compared with 3.64 million in June last year.
“From this figure, 72 per cent were domestic tourists while 28 per cent were foreign tourists who stayed overnight in the state.
“From January to June, Selangor’s tourism income reached RM11.4 billion,” he said after launching the Selangor Local Community Hosts’ Graduation Ceremony for the Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor districts recently.
Meanwhile, 49 people from Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam received their tour guide eligibility certificates after completing a three-month intensive course comprising basic modules in tourism promotion, local culture, and communication skills.
“The appointment of local community hosts is set to draw between 5,000 and 10,000 tourists to Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam every year. Among the main attractions are malls, restaurants and unique experiences offered in Selangor,” Ng said.
Selangor is aiming for its tourist arrivals to comprise 35 per cent international travellers, to strengthen the sector, one of the main contributors to the state’s economic growth.
