KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 1 — The Selangor government will finalise its decision next week on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) construction issue in Kampung Jawa, Klang, pending a final meeting with the relevant parties on Monday.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari expressed hope that a resolution would be achieved after the discussion.

"There were misunderstandings and technical issues that were not clearly understood, and (state executive councillor for housing) Datuk Borhan Aman Shah has handled the matter.

“There may have been confusion among residents from the beginning, but the matter is now being addressed. The state government is committed to resolving this to ensure the remaining 150 metres of the project can be completed.

“We have also informed WCE and held discussions with the ministry. We hope a comprehensive solution can be reached,” he told reporters after launching the Selangor Heritage Food Festival here today.

Previously, Sentosa assemblyman Dr Gunaraj George urged the contractor appointed by WCE to refrain from disturbing Kampung Jawa residents involved in the land acquisition process, following a reported scuffle between the two parties.

Police confirmed receiving two reports regarding the incident, and investigations are being carried out under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 323 for causing hurt.

It is understood that the land acquisition for the WCE (Taiping–Banting) Section 3, from the NKVE/FHR2 interchange to Mukim Klang, began in 2015.

The 233km expressway connects Taiping, Perak to Banting, Selangor with 21 interchanges, including access to SKVE, NKVE, PLUS, NNKSB and Latar.

WCE has denied claims of using force against Kampung Jawa residents during the project’s implementation.

It said confusion arose when some landowners refused to vacate land that had already been legally acquired by the federal government under the Land Acquisition Act 1960.

As of September 30, 2023, compensation amounting to RM9.8 million has been approved by the land administrator from the Selangor Department of Director General of Lands and Mines.
